Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hughes Managed Cybersecurity available for only Visa card holders?

This special 25% discount offer is available only to Visa card holders. To learn more about other managed services offered by Hughes, visit us at hughes.com.

How is Hughes Managed Cybersecurity deployed?

Getting up and running is easy. Choose between doing it yourself or having Hughes professionally install the service for you.

How do I deploy the solution myself?

  • Connect the provided Fortinet Firewall's WAN connection to your existing broadband service (be it cable, fiber, or DSL modem/router).
  • Then connect your wired devices like PCs, laptops, and servers to the four Ethernet LAN ports or use the wireless Enterprise Wi-Fi or Guest Wi-Fi connections.
  • To ensure you’re protected from internet outages, unplug the WAN connection, wait up to 30 seconds and then see if your network devices can still connect to the internet via the integrated 4G failover connection.
  • Once you’ve tested your 4G backup works, reconnect the WAN connection to your existing broadband modem/router.

What kinds of Wi-Fi services does Hughes offer?

Enterprise Wi-Fi: Designed for connecting business devices like back-office PCs, servers, and printers to the internet wirelessly.

Guest Wi-Fi: Provided for your guests to enjoy internet access in areas like the lobby, waiting room, or coffee shop.

IoT Wi-Fi: Set up specifically for IoT devices such as smart thermostats, lighting systems, and surveillance cameras.

How does Hughes manage Enterprise, Guest, and IoT Wi-Fi?

Each Wi-Fi network has a default content filtering profile for enhanced safety:

  • Safe Browsing (default for Enterprise Wi-Fi): Blocks sites identified as security threats.
  • Safe Content (default for Guest & IoT Wi-Fi): Also blocks adult content and sites that could potentially lead to legal issues.

The Guest Wi-Fi connection employs a default Hughes Captive Portal that requires acceptance of the default Terms & Condition, no login is required. If your primary internet fails and switches to the Hughes supplied LTE backup, Guest Wi-Fi will be paused until the main connection resumes.

For maximum security, connect your wireless devices to Hughes Wi-Fi network instead of your internet provider's. This ensures they are protected by Hughes.
